Lady Royals Move to 1-0 in ODAC Tournament with 3-2 Win

Sophomore starting pitcher
Nicole Wade (Madison Heights, Va./Liberty Christian) went the distance, allowing two runs over seven innings of work as the Eastern Mennonite University softball team advanced to the second round of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament with a 3-2 win over Guilford College.
The Royals improve to 29-11 overall as Wade moves to 12-1 on the season. EMU will now play the number two seed, Virginia Wesleyan College, scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. Guilford falls to 20-20-1 on the year.
Sophomore outfielder
Brittany Caricofe (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Ashby) was 2-for-3 on the day for EMU as
Jessica Blossser (Crimora, Va./Wilson Memorial) went 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
Wade allowed seven hits, two walks, while striking out five. Guilford starting pitcher DeNina Eldridge allowed three runs, one earned, on five hits with one walk and three punch outs.
Amber Stapler had two hits in four at bats, scoring a run, while Samantha Golley and Taryn Pulvermuller were each 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Guilford got on the board in the top of the first inning as the Quakers plated two runs on three hits. Stapler reached on a single and was driven home on an RBI single by Golley, who later crossed home plate on an RBI single by Pulvermuller.
Freshman
Dana Hall (Shenandoah, Va./Page Co.) helped to cut into the Guilford lead as she led off the third inning with a single. Wade pinch ran for Hall and moved to second on a sacrifice by
Mandee Madden (Winchester, Va./John Handley) and came around to score on an RBI double by Caricofe. EMU looked to add a few more runs in the inning as a lined shot by
Miranda White (Verona, Va./Fort Defiance) hit off Eldridge right to the shortstop who made the throw to first in time to get White.
EMU went ahead 3-2 in the fifth as three Guilford errors allowed two runs to score as Hall led off the inning with a two-base error down the left-field line. Wade again pinch ran for Hall and advanced to third on another Madden sacrifice. Blosser singled up the middle, scoring Wade, and later moved to third base on a throwing error that reached the Quaker dugout. Shelton came up to the plate and reached on another Guilford error, allowing Blosser to reach home plate and giving the Lady Royals the lead.
Wade did the rest for EMU as she allowed only one hit in the final inning, with a pair of pop outs and a strike out.
Freshman first baseman
Jessica Sullivan (Midlothian, Va./Manchester) had a hit in three trips to the plate.
