Sophomore Nicole Shelton (Richmond, Va./Mills E. Godwin) had five RBIs in the Eastern Mennonite University softball teams two games on Wednesday, March 5, as the Lady Royals competed in the Rebel Spring Games in Orlando, Fla.

Shelton had two hits and two RBIs in the first game against Chatham and followed that up with a double, triple, and three more runs batted in against Wittenberg. The Lady Royals defeated Chatham 8-0, but fell in a rematch against Wittenberg 5-4. EMU is now 6-2 overall this season.

Junior right hander Jamie Fraysher (Waterford, Va./Loudoun Valley) picked up another win, her third this season, as she allowed only four hits to Chatham in seven innings pitched. Sophomore outfielder Brittany Caricofe (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Ashby) had three hits, two stolen bases, and two RBIs while sophomore Nicole Wade (Madison Heights, Va./Liberty Christian Acad.) had a pair of doubles and an RBI.

Freshman Jessica Sullivan (Midloathian, Va./Manchester) added two singles and another two RBIs to the EMU offense.

In game two, the Lady Royals issued eight walks as they fell in seven innings to Wittenburg in a rematch of Wednesday's contest where EMU shut out the Tigers 3-0. Freshman Kaitlyn Andrews (Harrisonburg, Va./Turner Ashby), senior Natasha Viafora (Stanley, Va./Page Co.) and Wade each pitched for EMU against Wittenberg with Shelton contributing to the Lady Royals on offense with three RBIs.

"Andrews pitched well and we were looking to see what she could do against a tough team like Wittenberg," explained EMU head coach J.D. McCurdy. "They were able to string together a big inning on some walks and we just fell short. In the first game, Jamie (Fraysher) was moving the ball around well and spotting her pitches."

EMU will conclude the Rebel Spring Games on Thursday, March 6, as the Lady Royals play Bluffton University at 1 p.m., and Mary Washington at 5 p.m.
