Softball Sweep Puts Lady Royals at 6-0 in ODAC

The Eastern Mennonite University softball team moved to a perfect 6-0 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference following a softball sweep of the Sweet Briar College Vixens Thursday afternoon.
Game scores were 7-0 in game one and 10-0 in game two. The Lady Royals currently sit in tie for first place in the ODAC with Virginia Wesleyan with Lynchburg College and Randolph-Macon College tied for third.
EMU starting pitcher
Natasha Viafora (Stanley, Va./Page Co.) pitched a two-hit shut out for the Lady Royals in game one as she issued only two walks while striking out four in seven innings of work.
Viafora also did damage with the bat as she went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Freshmen outfielder
Jessica Blosser (Crimora, Va./Wilson Memorial) and first baseman
Jessica Sullivan (Midloathian, Va./Manchester) each went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.
Game one was scoreless heading into the top of the third inning when EMU struck for five runs on five hits with Blosser, Sullivan, and
Nicole Shelton (Richmond, Va./Mills E. Godwin) each hitting RBI singles in the inning.
In game two, the Lady Royals pushed four runs across in the third inning and another five runs in the fifth inning to seal the conference win. Shelton was 3-for-4 and tied a career high with four RBIs.
Blosser had two hits in two trips to the plate, scoring two runs while driving in another two for EMU. Junior infielder
Mandee Madden (Winchester, Va./John Handley) and sophomore
Nicole Wade (Madison Heights, Va./Liberty Christian) each went 1-for-2 while freshmen
Dana Hall (Shenandoah, Va./Page Co.) and Sullivan were 1-for-1 with a run scored with Hall driving in one run and Sullivan bringing home two more.
Game two starting pitcher
Jamie Fraysher (Waterford, Va./Loudoun Valley) complimented her no-hitter on Tuesday with another pitching gem today as she allowed only one hit in five inning, striking out three, to record her fifth win this season.
EMU, now 18-5 overall this season, will continue with their conference schedule this weekend as the Lady Royals head south to take on Guilford College on Saturday, March 29, at 2 p.m.
