Softball Royals Sweep WildCats

The Eastern Mennonite University softball team was finally able to get their double header with Randolph College in on Thursday, March 20, as the Lady Royals shut out the WildCats in game one (8-0) and claimed a 12-7 win in game two for the sweep.
EMU improves to 14-5 overall this year and maintain an unblemished 4-0 mark in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Randolph is now 3-7 on the season and 0-6 in the ODAC.
Sophomore third baseman
Nicole Shelton (Richmond, Va./Mills E. Godwin) went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI in game one while senior rightfielder
Anna Coleman (Fairfield, Va./Rockbridge) had two hits in three trips to the plate with a run scored and three RBIs.
Senior right hander
Natasha Viafora (Stanley, Va./Page Co.) pitched a one-hitter as she also issued two walks with six strike outs in five innings of work for her fifth win this season.
Sophomore shortstop
Nicole Wade (Madison Heights, Va./Liberty Christian) was 1-for-1 with a run scored in the win.
In game two the Lady Royals got a pair of RBIs from sophmore outfielder
Brittany Caricofe (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Ashby), freshman outfielder
Nicole Eberly (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Ashby), and freshman shortstop
Allison Painter (Steeles Tavern, Va./Riverheads) in route to a 12-7 conference win.
The Lady Royals scored five runs in the second and third innings before tacking on a run each in the fourth and fifth innings. Freshman catcher
Dana Hall (Shenandoah, Va./Page Co.) scored twice for EMU while Shelton was 3-for-5 from the dish. Coleman and junior infielder
Mandee Madden (Winchester, Va./John Handley) also had two runs scored each for the visiting Royals.
Lindsey Wood was 3-for-4 with three RBIs with Shar Plows scoring three runs in three trips to the plate for the home team.
The Lady Royals will travel south to Staunton, Va., on Tuesday, March 25, for a non-conference double header against the Fighting Squirrels of Mary Baldwin College at 3 p.m.
