The Guilford College Quakers will advance to the semifinal round of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament following an 81-66 win over the Eastern Mennonite University men's basketball team Friday afternoon in Salem, Va., at the Salem Civic Center.

The Quakers (22-4) will now play the winner of the Roanoke College versus Washington & Lee contest, scheduled to tip-off at 3 p.m. EMU ends its 2007-08 season with a 9-17 overall record and a 5-13 mark in the ODAC.

Seniors Brad Parkes (Winchester, Va./James Wood) and Corey Bailey (Centreville, Va./Brentsville District) each led the Royals with 12 points while freshman wing D.J. Hinson (Newport News, Va./Menchville) had another seven points for EMU.

Reigning ODAC Player of the Year Ben Strong had 23 points and 11 rebounds for Guilford in the win. Caleb Kimbrogh (14 points), Tyler Sanborn (12 points, 15 rebounds), and Martin Stephenson (11 points) each scored in double figures for the Quakers who were 2-0 against EMU this season.

Guilford scored 49 points in the first half with Strong and Kimbrough each pacing the squad with 13 and 14 points respectively. The Quakers built a 13 point advantage with 14:40 left in the first half with the lead growing to 16 at one point. The Royals cut into the deficit with Hinson adding a pair of buckets to move EMU to only 10 points of the Guilford lead before Strong and Kimbrough pushed the advantage up to 18 with Stephenson adding another basket as time expired to send the Quakers into the locker room with a comfortable 49-29 lead.

The #1 ranked Quakers continued to pour on the offense in the second half as they built up too large of an advantage for the Royals to overcome. EMU shot only 34 percent in the second half (12-35) compared to 40 percent (12-30) in the first with the Quakers also struggling from around the basket as they shot 34 percent in the second stanza (52 percent, 21-for-40, in the first). Strong had another eight points for GC in the second half with George Neville adding eight points on 4-of-4 shooting from the field off the bench for Guilford.

Freshman guard George Johnson (Richmond, Va./Miller School) had six points and two steals for EMU. Sophomore guard Austin Twine (Dublin, Va./Pulaski Co.) had five points off the bench.
