Brad Parkes (Winchester, Va./James Wood) led all scorers with 29 points as the Eastern Mennonite University men's basketball team beat Lynchburg College 87-52 Saturday afternoon.

The win moves the Royals to 5-12 overall on the season and 2-9 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. EMU swept the season series from the Hornets with the win after beating LC earlier this month in Yoder Arena, 92-78. Lynchburg falls to 3-14 on the year and 1-10 in the ODAC.

Freshman guard George Johnson (Richmond, Va./Miller School) had 10 points while sophomore guard Austin Twine (Dublin, Va./Pulaski Co.) had another nine points and five assists to compliment the 29 points from Parkes.

Center Mason Wooldridge had a team high 21 points and 10 rebounds for Lynchburg.

"We had some good looks at the basket and for the first time in a while and everyone really had a good day shooting overall," explained EMU head coach Kirby Dean. "Were young, but talented, and the whole team played well together this afternoon."

EMU never trailed in the game and quickly went up by double digits as a 13-0 run to start the first half was capped by a three-pointer from freshman D.J. Hinson (Newport News, Va./Menchville) and two free throws from Twine. The Royals pushed their lead up to 18 (13:16 on clock) with sophomore forward Robert Roy (Culpeper, Va./Madison Co.) adding a layup along with a trey from junior guard LeRoger Parrish (Danville, Va./Tunstall). EMU took a 13 point lead into the break as KC Mendez and Wooldridge kept the game within reach for LC.

Parkes had 14 points in the first half with Twine and Johnson adding six each. EMU shot 59 percent in the half (13-of-22) compared to 33 percent (9-of-27) for the home team.

The Royals continued to capitalize on their strong shooting in the second half as Parkes added another 15 points in the half on 6-of-9 shooting from the field with freshman Rashawn Hannah (Woodbridge, Va./Forest Park) adding six points. EMU built up a lead of 35 points as sophomore guard Jason Rutschman (Troutville, Va./Lord Botetourt) iced the win for the visiting Royals.

Parkes was 10-of-13 overall from the field and 8-of-10 from the charity stripe. Hannah finished with eight points, three rebounds, and two steals for EMU.

"It was just a total team effort," added Dean. "You look up and down our lineup and we had everyone contributing something to get this win."

The Royals will return to Park View tomorrow as they host the Tigers of Hampden-Sydney for a 3 p.m.
