Lynchburg Collects Third Straight ODAC Championship

Lynchburg College collected their third straight Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championship as the #2 seeded Hornets defeated the #1 seeded Eastern Mennonite University field hockey team 4-2 Saturday afternoon in Harrisonburg, Va.
The ODAC Championship is the 12th title for the Hornets. EMU and Lynchburg have matched up the past three years (12 in all) in the conference finals with the last two being held in Harrisonburg, Va. The Hornets will now represent the ODAC in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Tournament scheduled to begin next Friday, November 14.
Lynchburg scored four goals in the first period with Jordan Warrington tipping in a pass from Signey Milks in the third minute of the game to put the visiting team up 1-0. Goals by Erin Funkhouser (assist, Warrington), and Allie Weir (assist, Funkhouser) in the 19th and 23rd minutes pushed the Lynchburg lead to 3-0 before the half.

The Lady Royals kept the game close with
Alyssa Derstine (Telford, Pa./Christopher Dock) scoring her first goal of the contest on an assist by senior
Kristina Landis (Harleysvile, Pa./Christopher Dock).
Derstine, Landis, and
Karissa Sauder (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) were all named to the ODAC All-Tournament Team for EMU.
Derstine added a second period goal in the 69th minute to cut the Hornet lead in half (4-2), but the reigning ODAC Champions held on in the final minute to claim the title.
Sarah Cates had two saves in goal for Lynchburg. Nolt finished with six saves for EMU.
