Lady Royals Split Matches at EMU Volleyball Tournament

The Eastern Mennonite University women's volleyball team defeated Guilford College in the first match of the EMU Tournament 3-0 before falling in three to North Carolina Wesleyan in the second game. EMU finishes the tournament with a 1-3 record overall.
In game one the Lady Royals cruised to a 30-11 win as seniors
Megan Good (Quito, Ecuador/Prairie),
Courtney Miller (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite), and
Frances Pfister (Madison Heights, Va./New Covenant) each recorded four kills.
Junior setter
Sara Hoffman (Leesburg, Fla./Leesburg) had 10 assists for the game and finished the match with 32 assists.
Good paced the team with 15 kills while freshman
Monika Burkholder (Linville, Va./Eastern Mennonite) had a team high six service aces.
Senior libero
Laura Bomberger (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite) had 11 digs in the win.
Game scores for the Guilford match were: 30-11, 30-23, 30-20.
The second match of the day featured the Lady Royals going up against North Carolina Wesleyan for the third place trophy.
The Battling Bishops dispatched the Lady Royals in the first game as Sydney Bens led the charge with seven kills on 15 attempts while Caitlin George registered a team high 13 assists.
EMU pushed N.C Wesleyan in the second game as freshman
Jenny Blosser (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite) collected her second service ace of the game to put the Lady Royals up 26-23.
The Battling Bishops fought back and tied the game at 27 thanks to kills by Bens and Sarah Gibbs and an EMU error. The Lady Royals got the lead right back on the next play on an attack error by NCW before a service error and two attack errors sealed the game for the Battling Bishops.
Game scores for the North Carolina Wesleyan match were: 30-25, 30-28, and 30-22.
The Lady Royals now head on the road as they travel to Staunton, Va., to take on the Fighting Squirrels of Mary Baldwin on Tuesday, September 4, at 7 p.m.
