The Eastern Mennonite University softball team came back from a two-run deficit to advance to the third round of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Softball Tournament with a 5-2 win over Roanoke College.

The Lady Royals will now go up against Emory & Henry College in a rematch of the first round contest that the Wasps won in 10 innings 1-0.

EMU scored all five of its runs in the bottom of the fourth inning after Roanoke College had knocked in two runs in the top of the inning. Freshman Nicole Shelton (Richmond, Va.) and junior catcher Miranda White (Verona, Va.) starting the inning off with back-to-back singles. Starting pitcher Natasha Viafora (Stanley, Va.), playing in the designated player position after being switched out in the top of the inning, singled home pinch runner Lauren Michel (Princess Ann, Md.) for the Lady Royals first run and then later came into score on a double steal with junior right fielder Anna Coleman (Fairfield, Va.) taking second base.

The inning continued with Roanoke going through two different pitching changes before Lyndsi Craig recorded the third out in the inning. Craig went 2 1/3 innings for Roanoke, allowing only one hit with two strike outs.

Fraysher, pitching in relief of Viafora, shut down the Maroon offense as the sophomore right hander pitched 3 1/3 innings of shut out softball, giving up only one hit and one walk while striking out a batter to pick up her 11th win of the season.

Shelton went 2-for-2 for EMU with an RBI while freshman second baseman Nicole Wade (Madison Heights, Va.) was 2-for-3 with a run scored.

EMU improves to 24-13 on the year while defending champion Roanoke College ends the 2007 season with a 29-9 record overall and a 15-3 mark in the ODAC.
