Neither team was able to get a run across the board in the first seven innings as the Lady Royals had an opportunity to get a run across in the top of the third inning with two runners on and only one out. Emory & Henry starting pitcher Megan Evans battled back and got the final two outs on a groundout and strike out to end the threat.
The Wasps then had a chance to score in the fourth inning as they also put runners on the corners with two outs.
Natasha Viafora (Stanley, Va.) got the catcher, Megan Funk, to ground out for the final out and preserve the tie.
The teams battled through two extra innings before going to the international tie-breaker rule in the top of the 10th. Freshman center fielder
Brittany Caricofe (Bridgewater, Va.) was placed on second but was unable to score as EMU was unable to advance her home as Shannon Harris, relieving Evans, got two foul outs and a strike out to end the inning.
Emory & Henry came to bat in the bottom of the inning and quickly put runners on the corners as Laken Price reached on a fielder's choice to third base and put the tying run 60 feet away. After a conference on the mound Viafora got Reagan Clarke to hit a grounder back to the circle but the throw was mishandled, allowing pinch-runner Laura Hudson to score the game winning run for E&H.
Caricofe, junior shorstop
Hayley Shepard (Grottoes, Va.), and junior catcher
Miranda White (Verona, Va.) each had a hit for EMU.
