The Eastern Mennonite University softball team ran its win streak to six games as they swept Old Dominion Athletic Conference foe Emory & Henry Saturday afternoon in Emory, Va. The Lady Royals won the first game 1-0 even though they were no-hit while they finished the sweep with a 2-1 win in the second game.
Natasha Viafora (Stanley, Va.) who almost pitched a perfect game earlier this week against Mary Washington, was again dominate from the circle for EMU as she held Emory & Henry to three hits in seven innings of work to pick up her team leading eighth win of the season. Viafora is tied for first in the ODAC pending today's results with eight wins while pitching 73 2/3 innings for EMU.
The Lady Royals scored the games only run in the top of the first inning when junior shortstop
Hayley Shepard (Grottoes, Va.) walked and came around to score on an error and a wild pitch.
Emory & Henry's Shannon Harris picked up the tough luck loss as the junior right hander pitched a no-hitter, allowing only the one run while walking three and striking out eight.
In the second game, EMU came back from a one-run deficit in the top of the sixth inning thanks to an RBI single off the bat of junior
Miranda White (Verona, Va.), driving in Shepard with the first run while sophomore
Mandee Madden (Winchester, Va.) scored the second run for EMU on a bases loaded walk.
Sophomore pitcher
Jamie Fraysher (Waterford, Va.) took it from there as she allowed only one hit in 6 1/3 innings of relief to pick up the win.
The Lady Royals are now 17-9 overall on the season and 5-5 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference while Emory & Henry is now 15-13 overall and 7-3 in the ODAC.
EMU will now face-off against Sweet Briar College on Tuesday, April 3, in an ODAC double header scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
