The Eastern Mennonite University softball team swept both games of a double header against Mary Baldwin College Tuesday afternoon on Gehman Field in Harrisonburg, Va.

The Lady Royals move to 13-9 overall on the season. EMU won the first game by a score of 12-0 and then took the second game 24-1.

In the first game EMU scored nine runs in the bottom of the first inning with junior rightfielder Anna Coleman (Fairfield, Va.) blasting off with her first home run of the season, a grand slam, to put the Lady Royals ahead 9-0 after one.

EMU tacked on two more runs in the third inning with sophomore first baseman Mandee Madden (Winchester, Va.) driving in two runs with a double off the centerfield wall. Madden finished game one going 1-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI while junior shortstop Hayley Shepard (Grottoes, Va.) went 1-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs.

Junior outfielder Brittany Caricofe (Bridgewater, Va.) was 2-for-2 with two runs scored for EMU.

In game two, the Lady Royals again held a big lead after the first inning as EMU plated seven, thanks in part to RBI singles from third baseman Nicole Shelton (Richmond, Va.) and Shepard.

Shelton was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and four RBIs with Shepard going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and four more RBIs.

Caricofe added three more hits in the second game to finish the two-game series going 5-for-6 with five runs scored and two RBIs.

The Lady Royals tacked on eight more runs in the second inning with junior outfielder Anny Smucker (Bird In Hand, Pa.) and junior catcher Miranda White (Verona, Va.) also getting in the hit parade. Smucker had an RBI double, scoring freshman Nicole Wade (Madison Heights, Va.) and Coleman while White also drove in two more runs.

EMU will now host non-conference opponent Mary Washington on Thursday, March 29, with a double header contest beginning at 3 p.m.
