Field Hockey Moves to 4-0 in ODAC
Sophomore Sarah Roth scored the first goal of the game for EMU against Randolph-Macon
Sophomores
Sarah Roth (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) and
Alyssa Derstine (Telford, Pa./Christopher Dock) each recorded a goal as the Eastern Mennonite University field hockey team defeated Randolph-Macon College 2-0 Saturday afternoon.
The win moves the Lady Royals to .500 overall on the season at 5-5, but more importantly gives them a perfect 4-0 record in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.
Roth started the scoring for EMU in the first half as the sophomore middle stroked her first goal of the season in the 25th minute off a penalty corner.
Derstine added her goal with 10:39 off the clock in the second half on an assist from freshman
Linda Cimini (Cape May, NJ/Middle Township).
"Sarah had a direct shot off a corner from the top of the circle," added EMU coach Brenda Bechler on the Lady Royals first goal of the game. In the second half we scored when Linda served it into Alyssa who was at the top of the key and was able to put it in before their goalkeeper could react."
The Lady Royals outshot the Yellow Jackets 30-7 while holding a 16-4 advantage in penalty corners.
EMU freshman goalkeeper
Becky Nolt (East Berlin, Pa./Bermudian Springs) had three saves in the shutout.
The field hockey team will now face off against Bridgewater College on Wednesday, October 10, for a 4 p.m. ODAC match-up.
