Sophomore Alyssa Derstine (Telford, Pa./Christopher Dock) scored two goals and added two assists while freshman Katie Cimini (Cape May, NJ/Middle Township) scored three goals as the Lady Royals defeated Sweet Briar College 9-1 to advance to the semi-final round of the conference tournament.

EMU moves to 9-6 overall while Sweet Briar ends its season at 2-13 overall and 0-7 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.

"It was exciting to see Katie Cimini come off the bench and score three goals after missing most of the season with an injury," commented EMU head coach Brenda Bechler following the EMU win.

Sweet Briar held the Lady Royals scoreless through the first ten minutes of the game before the combination of freshman Allison Byler (Belleville, Pa./Belleville Mennonite) and Derstine hooked up for the first goal of the game and fourth of the season for Byler.

Junior Kristina Landis (Harleysville, Pa./Christopher Dock) scored the Lady Royals second goal of the game with an assist from sophomore Sarah Roth (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) to go up 2-0.

EMU tacked on four more goals in the half with sophomore Lauren Derstine (Telford, Pa./Christopher Dock), Cimini (with two), and Roth each getting a score.

Alicia Modzelewski recorded a first half goal for the Vixens.

Cimini and Alyssa Derstine closed out the game and scoring for EMU in the second half with Derstine counting for two scores.

"We tried to work on our passing game in practice and we had some good passes today that set up a couple scoring opportunities."

The Lady Royals, who have home field advantage throughout the tournament, will host Randolph-Macon College match on Wednesday, October 31, with the time yet to be determined.
