Hayley Shepard and Miranda White each had five hits for the day as Eastern Mennonite University took a pair of wins from Randolph-Macon College 9-1 and 9-5 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference softball action on Sunday in Harrisonburg, Va.

With the win EMU (19-15, 9-7 ODAC) tied for the second-most wins in program history. The 1990 team finished the season 19-15 and won the school's only ODAC championship. The 1992 team had the most wins with a 22-15-1 overall mark.

In game one, EMU scored four runs in the first and never looked back. R-MC (15-15, 5-11 ODAC) got one back in the second, but the Lady Royals scored one in the fourth and put the game away by the eight-run rule with four in the sixth.

Freshman Jamie Fraysher (Waterford, Va.) got the win with one run allowed on six hits in six innings. She improved to 11-10. Freshman Courtney Brooks (Spotsylvania, Va.) fell to 9-6 after allowing nine runs, eight earned, on 14 hits in five and one-third innings.

Sophomore short stop Hayley Shepard (Grottoes, Va.) was 3-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and three runs scored. Sophomore third baseman Miranda White (Verona, Va.) was also 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Sophomore right fielder Laura Bomberger (Harrisonburg, Va.) and freshman second baseman Mandee Madden (Winchester, Va.) each had two hits, scored once, and drove in a run. Fraysher drove in two runs as well.

Freshman third baseman Christine Shipyan (Waldorf, Md.) was 2-for-3 and scored the only run for the Yellow Jackets.

In the second game, junior Rochelle Zook (Sarasota, Fla.) earned her first career EMU victory to improve to 1-0 after allowing three runs on five hits in five innings. Fraysher pitched the last two innings and allowed two runs.

EMU led 2-0 until the top of the fifth when sophomore center fielder Brooke Snyder (Ashland, Va.) struck for a three-run home run to put R-MC up 3-2. Trailing for the first time all day, Shepard led off the bottom of the inning with a solo home run, and EMU went on to send 11 batters to the plate and scored six runs to go up 8-3 before going on to win 9-5.

Shepard was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. White, Bomberger, freshman first baseman Brooke McCormick (Buena Vista, Va.), and Madden each had two hits, with Bomberger adding her second double of the day. Fraysher had one hit and drove in two.

Snyder was 4-for-4 with four runs driven in while sophomore Meaghan Mauck (Fredericksburg, Va.) was 3-for-4 and scored once. Sophomore left fielder Carrie Barchick was 2-for-4 and scored twice.

EMU has clinched at least a tie for sixth in the ODAC and will return to action on Tuesday with a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Messiah College.
