Roanoke College scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth after Eastern Mennonite University scored in the top half of the inning for a 2-1 extra-inning victory to wrap up an Old Dominion Athletic Conference softball doubleheader sweep on Monday night in Salem, Va. Roanoke also won game one 6-0.

EMU (17-15, 7-7 ODAC) and RC (25-3, 10-2 ODAC) battled to a scoreless tie through seven innings. The Lady Royals took their first lead of the day on an RBI single in the eighth by sophomore Laura Bomberger (Harrisonburg, Va.).

The Maroons, however, responded with two unearned runs in the bottom of the inning after the Lady Royals committed their only two errors of the game in the inning. Senior Ashley Pierce (Carrollton, Va.) drove in both runs with a single to clinch the victory.

Junior Lyndsi Craig (Roanoke, Va.) pitched one out to stop the EMU rally and earn the victory in relief of junior Emily Rackley (Midlothian, Va.). Sophomore Jamie Fraysher (Waterford, Va.) took the loss, allowing two unearned runs on six hits in seven and one-third innings.

Bomberger was the lone player for either team with two hits.

In the first game, Roanoke scored three in the third, two in the fourth, and one in the sixth for a 6-0 shutout. Fraysher took the loss, allowing five runs, two of which were earned, in three and one-third innings. Junior Rochelle Zook (Sarasota, Fla.), seeing her first action of the season for EMU, allowed one run on three hits in two and two-thirds innings. Craig earned the victory with a four-hit shutout.

Center fielder Anna Coleman (Fairfield, Va.) had two hits for EMU. Sophomore Erin Ruitenberg (Geneva, Ill.) drove in two runs on one hit for the Maroons.

EMU returns to home action on Saturday with a 2:30 p.m. doubleheader against Virginia Wesleyan College.
