Sophomore Natasha Viafora scattered five Lynchburg College hits over seven innings as Eastern Mennonite University recorded a 7-2 victory in the second game of an Old Dominion Athletic Conference softball doubleheader on Tuesday in Lynchburg, Va. Lynchburg won the first game 6-1.

EMU (9-11, 1-3 ODAC) earned its first victory over LC (15-5, 3-1 ODAC) since recording an 8-5 victory in the last of four meetings during the 1997 season. The Lady Royals jumped out to a 4-0 lead and never looked back against the Hornets.

Viafora (Stanley, Va.) allowed two runs, one earned, on five hits in the complete-game effort while striking out four. She was also 2-for-4 at the plate with a double, an RBI, and a run scored. Sophomore Miranda White (Verona, Va.) was 4-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Freshman designated player Jamie Fraysher (Waterford, Va.) was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Junior Ali Manns (Weaverville, N.C.) took the loss after lasting just two innings and allowing four runs on five hits. Five different Hornets had one hit each, including senior designated player Brittany Edelen (Aquasco, Md.) with a home run.

In the first game, the Hornets led just 2-1 entering the bottom of the sixth before breaking the game open with a four-run inning. Freshman Micah Smith (Ivor, Va.) allowed one run on seven hits in seven innings for the win.

Senior Lauren Lancaster (Bent Mountain, Va.), junior Morgan Austin (Mechanicsville, Va.), and sophomore Dara Sandifer (Monroe, Va.) each homered, with Austin going 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Junior Brandie Brown (Lynchburg, Va.) was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.

Fraysher took the loss for EMU with six runs on nine hits in seven innings. Viafora and sophomore Hayley Shepard (Grottoes, Va.) were each 2-for-3 to lead EMU.

EMU will travel to Winchester, Va. on Wednesday for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
