Yellow Jackets Cruise Over Royals 75-57

Randolph-Macon College shot 54.7% from the floor while Eastern Mennonite University shot just 29.9% as the Yellow Jackets picked up the 75-57 victory in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference men's basketball game on Wednesday evening in Harrisonburg, Va.

R-MC (18-5, 13-3 ODAC) trailed only once at 3-2 and built a 10-point lead at 15-5 with 11:27 remaining in the first period. The Yellow Jackets went on to take a 33-16 lead, their largest of the period, into the half.

The Yellow Jackets continued the onslaught in the second half, going up by 22 at 40-18 before EMU (11-12, 6-10 ODAC) finally made a push to cut it to 13 at 44-31 with 13:36 remaining. The Royals could get no closer though as R-MC went back up by 23 and went on to win 75-57.

R-MC, which is receiving votes in the most recent D3hoops.com national poll, shot 54.7% for the game, including 14-of-22 (63.6%) in the second half. The Yellow Jackets went just 2-for-12 on three-pointers and hit 15-of-25 free throws (60%).

EMU, which clinched a spot in the ODAC Tournament thanks to losses by Lynchburg and Washington and Lee, shot just 29.9% for the game. The Royals shot just 23.3% in the first half, the lowest total of the season for any half. The Royals were also 4-for-14 (28.6%) on three-pointers and 13-for-27 (48.1%) at the charity stripe.

Sophomore forward Jeremy Dixon (Manheim, Pa.) had his second double-double of the season for the Yellow Jackets with 16 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, and two blocks. Junior guard Adam Krovic (Durham, N.C.) had 12 points while freshman David Carlson (Woodbridge, Va.) narrowly missed a double-double with 10 points and a career-high nine rebounds.

Junior forward Jason Sager (Edinburg, Va.) had 24 points, eight rebounds, and three steals in just 26 minutes to lead EMU. He moved into ninth place on the career scoring list at EMU with 1,283 points, passing Tim Ehst ('76) with 1,267. In addition, senior E.J. Arrington (Staunton, Va.) had one assist to move into a tie for 14th with 204 career assists, pulling even with Dennis Wyse ('75).

Prior to the game, EMU honored Sager and Arrington for scoring their 1,000th career point earlier in the season. EMU also honored senior student assistant coach Matt Huff (Berryville, Va.), senior guard Earl Dyer III (Richmond, Va.), Arrington, and senior point guard Dustin Galyon (Sterling, Kan.) who were playing in their final home games.

EMU will travel to Washington and Lee University on Saturday for a 7 p.m. ODAC contest.
