Emory & Henry Claims 66-58 Win Over Eastern Mennonite

Emory & Henry College reeled off a 27-4 run in the second half to overtake Eastern Mennonite University and went on to record the 66-58 win in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon in Harrisonburg, Va.

EMU (13-8, 9-7 ODAC) took control early in the contest, building a 16-4 lead right out of the gate. The Lady Royals led by at least eight for the rest of the half and carried a 35-22 advantage into the locker room.

EMU built the lead to as large as 16 at 45-29 with 15:37 remaining. However, E&H (8-12, 6-9 ODAC) went on a 15-0 run and held EMU scoreless for five minutes to pull within one. The Wasps continued the pressure and took a 56-49 lead with 8:39 left to complete a 27-4 run. E&H made seven three-point field goals during its run. The Wasps led by at least three the rest of the way in knocking off the Lady Royals 66-58.

Four players were in double figures for E&H, led by freshman guard Miranda Carrasco (Roanoke, Va.) with 14 points. Sophomore guard Lauren Habel (Raleigh, N.C.) had 11 points. Sophomore guard Kiyett Brown (Mt. Airy, N.C.) and senior guard Brooke Barker (Rogersville, Tenn.) had 10 points each.

Senior center Amanda Renalds (Bridgewater, Va.) led all scorers with 17 points and also had seven rebounds for EMU. Junior guard Tara Jones (Richmond, Va.) had nine points with freshman guard Kathleen Steele (Gainesville, Va.) adding eight. Both had five rebounds.

E&H shot 32.9% for the game and made 10 three-pointers on 42 attempts (23.8%) while going 10-for-18 (55.6%) at the free throw line. EMU shot 35.6%, made 1-of-8 three-pointers, and went 15-for-24 (62.5%) at the charity stripe. E&H led in rebounds 50-45.

EMU will be home again on Sunday for a 2 p.m. game against Guilford College.
