Hershey, Souder lead Lady Royals over Randolph-Macon 3-1

Senior Kristie Souder (Telford, Pa.) had two goals while sophomore Meghan Hershey (Paradise, Pa.) scored the game-winning goal to lift the Eastern Mennonite University field hockey team past Randolph-Macon 3-1 Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Royals improve to 11-5 overall and 6-2 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference while Randolph-Macon falls to 7-8 overall and 4-4 in the conference.

EMU, which was down 1-0 at the half, rallied back in the second period to tie the game at one on Souder's first goal of the game and 12th of the season. Hershey gave the Lady Royals the lead almost 11 minutes later with her eighth goal of the season before Souder added her second goal of the game to push the EMU lead to 3-1.

Sophomore Julie Denlinger (Lancaster, Pa.) assisted on the first goal by Souder, her eighth assist this season.

Senior Katie Moyer (Blooming Glen, Pa.) had four saves for EMU while Ashley Crouch finished with 20 saves for Randolph-Macon.

Lindsey Bayham scored the games only goal for the Yellow Jackets off an assist from Morgan Hutchinson at the 29:14 mark in the first period.

EMU out shot Randolph-Macon 31-7 while holding an 11-3 edge in penalty corners.

EMU will now wait to see where they rank in the ODAC for next weeks playoffs. More information will be provided as it is available.
