#11 H-SC Stays Unbeaten with 78-66 Win Over EMU

Sophomore forward Troy Kaase poured in 27 points to lead Hampden-Sydney College to a 78-66 victory over Eastern Mennonite University in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference men's basketball game on Monday evening in Hampden-Sydney, Va.

HSC (11-0, 5-0 ODAC), ranked 11th in the most recent D3hoops.com poll, led 34-30 at the break and never trailed in the game. The Tigers outscored EMU (6-6, 2-4 ODAC) 26-9 over the first 10 minutes of the second half to take control. The Royals got as close as 10 before falling 78-66.

Kaase (Roanoke, Va.) shot 11-for-17 from the floor with seven rebounds and three blocks. With his 27-point outing, he increased his ODAC-leading scoring average to 21.6 points per game. Junior guard Kevin Forrester (Wytheville, Va.) added 15 points for the Tigers. Junior guard Mike Edwards (Richmond, Va.) contributed 11 points and five boards.

Junior forward Jason Sager (Edinburg, Va.) led EMU with 20 points and 16 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season. Sophomore guard Korey Whiting (Stafford, Va.) added 16 points, five assists, and three steals. Senior forward E.J. Arrington (Staunton, Va.) had 10 points and five boards.

EMU shot a season-best 86.4% (19-of-22) from the free throw line but went just 1-for-16 (6.3%) from the three-point arch. The Royals shot 36.5% from the floor, compared to 51.9% for the Tigers, who also went 3-for-12 from the arch and 19-for-29 (65.5%) from the charity stripe.

EMU will return home on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. game against Washington and Lee University.
