EMU's Korey Whiting Named ODAC Player of the Week
Eastern Mennonite University sophomore guard Korey Whiting has been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference men's basketball Player of the Week as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon in Salem, Va.
Whiting, a sophomore guard from Stafford, Va., led EMU in scoring in two ODAC victories for the week with solid all-around performances in both games. In an 86-79 win over Roanoke on Wednesday, he had a season-high 24 points with five rebounds, four assists, and three steals. He went 12-for-12 from the free-throw line to tie Joel Kauffman's ('01) EMU school record for free throw percentage in a game. Then on Saturday in an 80-73 triumph over Hampden-Sydney, he had 15 points, five rebounds, three assists, and five steals.
For the week, Whiting averaged 19.5 points, five rebounds, 3.5 assists, and four steals while shooting 52.4% from the floor and 85% from the charity stripe. He jumped to seventh in the ODAC in scoring with 14.5 points per game and also ranks 13th with 5.0 rebounds per game, fourth in assists at 3.58 per game, 11th in free throw percentage at .697, and leads the conference in steals with 3.05 per game.
With a 2-0 week, Whiting helped EMU vault into a tie for fifth in the conference standings. On Monday night, EMU travels to Lynchburg College for a 7 p.m. game.
