Lynchburg College remained undefeated in conference play after earning 2-0 and 10-3 victories over Eastern Mennonite University in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference softball doubleheader on Sunday afternoon in Harrisonburg, Va.

Lynchburg improved to 16-5 overall and 6-0 in the ODAC. The Hornets ran their winning streak to 10 games and are the only undefeated team in conference games. EMU fell to 8-7 overall and 2-4 in the ODAC.

In the first game, senior Jennifer Overstreet turned in a solid pitching performance to improve to 8-2 overall. She did not allow a run in seven innings of work while registering nine strikeouts and giving up three hits and two walks. Tessa Grubb was the hard-luck losing pitcher for EMU, falling to 1-4 overall. She allowed two unearned runs on six hits with three strikeouts in six innings.

The Hornets were able to capitalize on two EMU errors to record both runs unearned. In the third inning, Overstreet singled to right field and advanced all the way to third base on a fielding error by EMU freshman right fielder Anna Coleman. Two batters later, junior center fielder Lauren Lancaster hit an RBI double to left field for a 1-0 lead. The other Lynchburg run came in the sixth inning. With runners on the corners and two outs, designated player Caroline Cubbage reached on an error by EMU freshman shortstop Hayley Shepard. Senior first baseman Christy Mays scored on the play.

In the second game, EMU jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the first inning. Grubb tripled to lead off the inning and scored when sophomore center fielder Sabrina Tusing reached on an error by freshman second baseman Dara Sandifer. Later, with Tusing on third, freshman designated player Miranda White drew a walk. As White rounded first base, she drew the attention of sophomore pitcher Larissa Roscher, allowing Tusing to score. White later scored on a bunt single by Shepard.

After the strong first inning, Roscher and freshman Shay Drake combined to shut down the EMU offense as the Hornets scored nine unanswered runs for the 10-3 win. Lynchburg tied the score at 3-3 in the third on a two-run home run by Mays, her first of the season. The Hornets then took the lead in the fifth on a two-run double by Mays. Sophomore third baseman Morgan Austin added a two-run single to cap the four-run inning. LC added one run in the sixth and two in the seventh to close the game.

Roscher went five innings for the win, improving to 5-0. Mays went 3-for-5 with five RBI and three runs scored. Junior designated player Brittany Edelen was also 3-for-5. Lancaster and Austin had two hits each.

Freshman Mandy Morris allowed three unearned runs in three innings before leaving with the score tied 3-3. Fellow freshman Natasha Viafora surrendered four runs in two innings to take the loss and fall to 2-1 on the season. Five different players had one hit for the Royals with Grubb and freshman third baseman Laura Bomberger both hitting triples.

EMU will be back at home on Monday, April 4 in a make-up of a doubleheader against Guilford College that was rained out on Saturday. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
