Eastern Mennonite University won both games of a non-conference softball doubleheader against Mary Baldwin College on Friday afternoon in Harrisonburg, Va. The Lady Royals won the first game by a score of 11-3 and finished the second with a score 10-3.

With the victories, EMU improved to 4-3 overall while MBC dropped to 2-12 for the 2005 season.

In the first game, freshman Amanda Morris pitched five innings allowing three runs to earn the victory. Sophomore Tessa Grubb led the way offensively for the Lady Royals going 3-for-3 with 3 while knocking in three runs. Senior Erin Partee and sophomore Anna Coleman scored two runs each, while freshman Hayley Shepard added two RBI for EMU.

In the second game, freshman Roxanne Martin started and earned the victory, pitching three strong innings and allowing just one run. Freshman Natasha Viafora relieved Martin and pitched four innings while striking out three and allowing only two runs on four hits.

Shepard went 2-for-4 at the plate with four RBI to lead the Lady Royals. Sophomore Sabrina Tusing and freshman Laura Bomberger each had three hits while Grubb and freshman Annie Smucker added two runs each for EMU.

EMU will be back in action on Monday, March 21 with a 2 p.m. doubleheader against Baptist Bible College in Harrisonburg.
