EMU Field Hockey Tallies 4-1 Victory Over Roanoke

Eastern Mennonite University scored four goals in a strong first half and cruised to a 4-1 Old Dominion Athletic Conference field hockey victory over Roanoke College on Saturday evening in Harrisonburg, Va.
Freshman Julie Denlinger (Lancaster, Pa.) put EMU (9-4, 4-2 ODAC) on the board first 5:41 into the match. Senior Stephanie Derstine (Telford, Pa.) scored what proved to be the game-winner three minutes later.
The score remained 2-0 until the final six minutes when junior Kristie Souder (Telford, Pa.) scored her fifth goal of the season for a 3-0 lead for the Lady Royals. Denlinger closed the EMU scoring with four minutes left in the half with her sixth goal of the season.
Roanoke (3-12, 1-5 ODAC) scored its only goal of the match when sophomore Liz Hudson (Culpepper, Va.) found the back of the cage with 24 minutes remaining in the second period.
Senior Christina Bender (Belleville, Pa.) had five saves to pick up the victory in goal. Sophomore Lindsay Paz (Mt. Lakes, N.J.) had 19 saves for the Maroons. EMU held Roanoke without a shot in the first half and held a 31-8 advantage for the match. The Lady Royals also held an 11-5 edge in penalty corners.
The Roanoke match was the final home contest of the season for EMU. The Lady Royals go on the road Wednesday for a 7 p.m. match against the Generals of Washington and Lee University.
