EMU Men Defeat Lynchburg 74-68

Sophomore forward Jason Sager scored 20 points to lead four players in double figures as Eastern Mennonite University defeated Lynchburg College 74-68 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference game on Saturday in Lynchburg, Va.
EMU improved to 6-4 overall for the season and 3-2 in the ODAC. With the win, the Royals equaled their win total for the 2003-04 season when they went 6-19 overall and 4-14 in conference games. Lynchburg fell to 5-7 overall and 3-3 in the ODAC.
The Royals jumped out to a 40-27 halftime lead, but saw that lead dwindle to 57-55 with 7:58 remaining in the game. However, EMU quickly went on a 6-0 run and held on for the 74-68 victory.
For the game, EMU shot 50% from the floor and made five of eight shots from the three-point arch. EMU also benefited from 28 personal fouls by Lynchburg, making 27-of-42 attempts from the free throw line.
Sager finished the game with a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman guard Brad Parkes had 11 points while fellow freshman Korey Whiting had 14 points, six rebounds, and three steals. Sophomore guard JoMorrae Gordon had 10 points and six assists.
Junior guard Matt Sweeney led the Hornets with 16 points. Senior forward Ryan Pehanick added 13 points and seven rebounds. Lynchburg shot 38.2% for the game and connected on 4-of-22 three pointers. LC went 12-for-18 from the foul line.
On Monday, the Royals return home for the first time since December 11 when they host Hampden-Sydney College at 7 p.m.
