Roanoke Defeats EMU 4-2 in ODAC Field Hockey Quarterfinals

Freshman Liz Hudson scored two goals to lead fifth-seeded Roanoke College to a 4-2 victory over fourth-seeded Eastern Mennonite University in the quarterfinals of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference field hockey tournament on Saturday in Harrisonburg, Va.
With the win, Roanoke improves to 11-8 overall and advances to the semifinals of the ODAC tournament where it will meet the winner of #1 Lynchburg and #8 Sweet Briar. EMU ended its season at 6-11 overall.
Sophomore Kristie Souder put EMU on top just 1:32 into the match with an assist from Lisa King. However, 10 minutes later at 12:07 Hudson scored her first goal unassisted to begin a string of four consecutive Roanoke goals. Freshman Brooke Edwards scored at 26:48 with an assist from junior Melanie Bartnek for a 2-1 halftime lead.
Hudson struck again in the second half at the 45:51 mark with an assist from Edwards. Senior Kaylin Leavitt finished off the scoring for the Maroons at 54:46 with an assist from freshman Ashley Chambers. Junior Jonalyn Denlinger tried to spark an EMU comeback with an unassisted goal at 64:33, but the Lady Royals would get no closer.
Freshman Lindsay Paz picked up the victory in goal with three saves. Junior Christina Bender also had three saves for the Lady Royals. EMU led the match in shots 13-10 and corners 6-2.
