The EMU men's basketball team fall to #3 Hampden-Sydney
HARRISONBURG, Va. – The EMU men's basketball team fell to the third ranked team in the nation Hampden-Sydney by a score of 92-57 Saturday afternoon. The loss drops the Royals to 2-8 overall and 0-4 in the ODAC.
The Royals were able to hang tough with Tigers through the first period. Mike Culen (Winchester, Va./James Woods) netted seven of his team high 16 points in the first period to pace the Royals. Jason Sager (Edinburg, Va./Central) chipped in with four points and four rebounds. Sager would finish the game with 10 points for the Royals.
After a physical first period of play the Royals found themselves down by only 10 points at the half. EMU, though, would be unable to match the intensity displayed by Hampden-Sydney in the second period. Brandon Randall and Jason Holman would combine for 33 points to pace the Tigers. Center David Willson would add a team high 19 points and 11 rebounds for the double-double.
With the win the Tigers of Hampden-Sydney run their unbeaten streak to 10-0 overall and 3-0 in the ODAC.
The Royals will be back in action on Monday, January 12 at Lynchburg College. Game time is scheduled for 7pm.
