Lady Royals fall to highly ranked Roanoke College in both games of an ODAC double-header. The Royals

Harrisonburg, Va. – The Royals knew they had their hands full today as they hosted the 12th ranked team in the nation, Roanoke College. The Maroons entered into the contest looking for their eighth straight win and are currently in first place in the ODAC.

The Royals (4-14, 2-8 ODAC) fell behind by six runs in the first inning as Roanoke (20-3, 9-1 ODAC) scored six runs on five hits. The Maroons increased their lead in each of the following innings as they won the first game of the day in impressive fashion by a final score of 21-0.

EMU was able to manage only four hits in the first game. Freshman Molly Beiderman (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) was the only Royal to advance beyond first base in the game.

In the second game of the double-header the Royals were able to hold Roanoke to six runs in the first five innings extending the game to seven innings. Sophomore Erin Partee (Stryker, Oh./Stryker) drew a lead-off walk to start the fourth inning and advanced to second base on a wild pitch to give EMU a runner in scoring position. Sophomore Lee-Ann Stouff (Delran, N.J./Kings Christian) put the ball in play advancing Partee to third base with junior Lindsey Yancey (Stuarts Draft, Va./Stuarts Draft) stepping to the plate. Yancey grounded out to first base but picked up the RBI as Partee crossed home plate.

The Royals trailed Roanoke 11-1 as they stepped to the plate for their final at-bat. Partee singled up the middle to reach base for the second time in the game and Yancey recorded her second RBI of the day as she doubled to right-center field bringing Partee home for her second run of the day.

The Maroons won the second game by a final score of 11-2.
