EMU extends losing streak to four games with loss to Lynchburg

HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Eastern Mennonite University men's basketball team dropped their fourth straight contest dating back to first semester at the hands of Lynchburg College Saturday night at the University Commons. The Hornets won 86-69.

EMU (2-9, 0-4 ODAC) opened a 12-6 lead over Lynchburg to start the first half. The Hornets regained their composure and battled back to a one-point deficit 16-15 with a little over ten minutes remaining. LC (5-7, 1-3) took the lead on a three-pointer by Josh Cobbs (Danville, Va./Tunstall). They continued to extend their lead and found themselves up by five points with eight minutes left in the first period. Lynchburg held a 10-point lead only to have the Royals go on a 9-0 run to cut the lead to 31-30. E.J. Arrington (Staunton, Va./Stuarts Draft) hit a three-point shot that put EMU down by one point.

The Royals regained the lead on a lay-up by Arrington who scored 16 of his game-high 25 points in the first half. EMU would only keep the lead for the next three minutes as the Hornets battled back to regain the edge at the break 39-37.

In the second half, the Hornets could shake the pesky Royals. EMU stayed within six points until LC pulled away and opened up their largest lead 18 points with 4:27 left in the game. EMU pulled to within eleven points with 2:32 on the clock but would not get any closer as the Hornets went on to victory.

Ryan Pehanick (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) led the Hornets with 23 after missing the Hornets last game. Cobbs and Andy Albright (Hudson, Oh./Hudson) each added 17 points as the Hornets shot 48.6% from the floor. Todd Crown (Midlothian, Va./Clover Hill) chipped in 13 points.

For EMU Bryan Williams (Stafford, Va./Evangel Christian) recorded his second straight double-double ending the game with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Earl Dyer (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) added 11 points and seven assists. Mike Culen (Winchester, Va./James Wood) tallied 18 points.

Both teams pounded the ball inside as Lynchburg scored 44 points in the paint while EMU scored 42. Turnovers plagued both teams as they combined to commit 49. Lynchburg capitalized more scoring 37 points off EMU's miscues.
