GREENSBORO, NC - EMU kicked off the weekend with a Friday trip to North Carolina, for an ODAC match against Guilford.
All three sets were tightly contested, but ultimately it was the Quakers picking up the win over the Royals, 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 26-24).

Highlights
- Things were tied at five through the first 10 points, as EMU used kills from Emma Rogers and Logan Turchetta, along with blocks from Turchetta, Rogers and Haley Atkins. GC then opened up some breathing room with a 6-1 run before EMU went on a run of its own, 5-2, to pull back within two. Guilford won the next four points, followed by three straight from the Royals, highlighted by a pair of kills from Rogers and one from Turchetta. Later in the set, with EMU trailing by six, they pulled back within three after kills from Ella Lambert and Alyssa Carr, along with a Rogers/Lambert block. But Guilford won the next four points to lead 24-17 and, while EMU tallied three straight to cut their deficit to four, GC finished the set after an EMU service error.
- The teams swapped points to Guilford leading 9-8 to start the second set. The Quakers then pulled ahead with a 5-1 run, to lead 14-8. GC would continue to lead, and even extended it to as many as seven, 20-13, before EMU clawed its way back in. The Royals went on an 8-4 run, with Hannah Hensley picking up a pair of kills, and Felicity Jones & Cristina Colon adding a pair of aces, to cut the Guilford lead to 24-21. But like the first set, an EMU service error ended the run and put the Quakers ahead 2-0 for the match.
- With EMU leading 8-6 in the third, Guilford surged in front with a 7-1 run. EMU would go on a big run, 13-3, using three kills from Turchetta, two from Carr and a pair of aces, for a 22-16 advantage. Guilford answered with a 5-0 tilt to pull within one, but EMU got to set point after a Quaker error and an Atkins/Carr block. Unfortunately for the Royals, that would be their last point as GC reeled off five straight points, ending the match with a service ace for the win.

What's Next
EMU won't have long to think about tonight's loss as they're back in action on Saturday in Danville against Averett. First serve against the Cougars is set for noon.
