EARLYSVILLE, Va.- EMU Cross Country laced up their racing shoes for the first time in over two weeks on Saturday, putting their fitness to the test in the South Region Preview, hosted by the University of Lynchburg at the prestigious Panorama Farms Cross Country Course in Earlysville, Virginia. The course will be the site of the NCAA Division III South Region Championships on Saturday, Nov. 14.
The women's team was shorthanded with only two runners competing, both the dynamic duo of
Erin Loker and
Claire Hurst represented the Royals well on a difficult course against tough competition.
Ester Zar of Batten University won the women's 6k (3.73 miles) in a time of 21:58.8, while Saint Francis took home the team title with a low score of 79 points.
Highlights
- Team Score: N/A
- Loker finished 12th out of 128 runners, completing the 6k course in 24:01.3. The time was just 12 seconds off of Loker's personal record, and she finished third among ODAC runners, trailing only Zar and Adelynn Carpenter of Lynchburg.
- Hurst crossed the line in 59th, clocking in at 27:29.6 for 6k. Hurst's time surpassed her previous 6k personal best of 28:34.8 by a over a minute.
What's Next
EMU Women's Cross Country will compete close to home when they go to the JMU Invitational on Friday, Sept. 25 at the New Market Battlefield in New Market, Va. The women's 5k is scheduled to go off at 5:45 p.m.
