HARRISONBURG, Va. – After a three-game road trip, the EMU Men's Soccer team played at home for the first time in two weeks, welcoming Wilson College to the EMU Turf Field.
In a game that was delayed twice for lightning, the Royals found that little bit extra to extinguish the Phoenix for a 1-0 win. Senior defender
Logan Darrow was the hero of the night, depositing the game winner that doubled as his first career collegiate goal.
With the win, the Royals extend their unbeaten streak to five, going 2-0-3 in that span.
Records: EMU 4-1-3 | Wilson 2-5-2
Highlights
- The first half was fairly even between the two sides as Wilson slightly outshot EMU 5-4. However, the Royals had higher quality chances with two shots on goal to Wilson's one.
- During halftime, Mother Nature made her presence felt when lightning was detected in the area, leading to an extensive delay.
- 59' | A foul by Wilson to the right of the box set up EMU with a great set piece opportunity, and they made the most of it. Elijah Byrd booted the ball into the box, and Darrow headed it past the Phoenix goalkeeper to put the Royals out front and get the home crowd excited.
- Just a few minutes later, Wilson came close to an equalizer when a shot from Andrew Bailey hit the crossbar. That is as close as the Phoenix got to a goal as Ryan Bousfield and the Royals defense buckled down to preserve the victory.
