ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - In yet another road match to start the Royals 2025 season, EMU WVB made the trip north to Maryland for a Saturday tri-match against St. Mary's College of Maryland and Regent University.
In the opener, it was the host Seahawks that picked up the win, downing EMU 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-21). In the middle match, it was a battle of the Royals, in which Regent got the best of EMU, picking up a 3-1 (25-20, 25-12, 18-25, 25-20) win.

Highlights
Set One: SMCM 25, EMU 23
- Two kills from Logan Turchetta and one from Emma Rogers highlighted a 6-3 start in the opening set for EMU. Two errors and a Turchetta ace would eventually give them a 9-4 advantage before SMCM reeled off six straight points to pull ahead by one.
- The Royals would re-take the lead, 12-11, and eventually went on a 6-1 run, including kills from Rogers and Kassidy Meadows, to take an 18-15 lead. St. Mary's won the next four points to pull ahead by one, but once again, EMU rallied, using kills from Rogers and Turchetta, along with a Turchetta ace, to lead 22-20.
- After a Seahawk sub, SMCM found their offense, using four kills and a block, to win five of the next six points and take a 1-0 lead.
Set Two: SMCM 25, EMU 18
- Once again, EMU came out of the game early with a 3-1 lead after kills from Kenley Smith and Emma Greer, as well as a Kaitlyn Custis ace. But SMCM responded with an 8-0 tilt to take a 9-3 lead.
- Later in the set, trailing by eight, EMU would pull within five after a pair of kills from Meadows and one from Mckenzie Taylor. The Seahawks extended their lead to seven, but a 5-0 Royals run pulled them within two, as they won four of the five points on blocks. Unfortunately for EMU, they would be outscored 8-3 over the next 11 points as St. Mary's took a 2-0 match lead.
Set Three: SMCM 25, EMU 21
- This time it was St. Mary's pulling ahead early, leading 6-2 through the first eight points. The teams swapped points to 11-8 SMCM, before EMU tied things up with a kill from Smith and a block from Greer and Smith.
- They once again flip flopped points to 15-all before a 5-1 Seahawk run gave them a 20-16 lead. The Royals pulled within one, 20-19, with a St. Mary's error and kills from Greer and Jada Parker.
- The Seahawks went on their own 3-0 run to lead 23-19, and would wrap up the set, and the match, winning two of the next four points.

Highlights
Set One: Regent 25, EMU 20
- An error, a Smith kill and a Parker ace, put EMU ahead 3-2 to open the match. The teams traded points to EMU leading 7-6, before Regent went on a 4-0 run, taking a 10-7 lead.
- EMU pulled within two, 11-9, after kills from Parker and Lindsay Bly. But Regent extended their lead to seven after a 6-1 tilt.
- Later in the set, with EMU trailing by eight, they were able to chip away at Regent's lead, getting it down to three, 20-17, with kills from Turchetta, Bly and Jones, and a Jones ace. But EMU wasn't able to grab any more momentum, as the teams swapped points to a 25-20 Regent set win.
Set Two: Regent 25, EMU 12
- Regent opened the set on a 6-2 run, before EMU pulled within one with an error and two Turchetta kills.
- RU would break the set open, going on a 13-1 run and taking a 19-6 advantage. EMU would pick up six more points, including kills from Smith and Greer, but Regent won the final two points to take a 2-0 match lead.
Set Three: EMU 25, Regent 18
- Trailing 3-2 early on, EMU took a 5-3 lead with three straight points, including back-to-back aces from Jones.
- EMU would continue to hold a slight lead, with Regent pulling within one multiple times, including 13-12. But EMU kept fighting, eventually pushing their lead to five after a 3-0 run by Bly and Rogers.
- After Regent cut their deficit to three, 19-16, EMU finished things off with a 6-2 tilt, using a service error and a Rogers kill, to make it 2-1.
Set Four: Regent 25, EMU 21
- The Royals, Regent that is, jumped out to a 6-3 advantage to start the fourth set. EMU answered with a 3-0 run, and the teams swapped points to nine apiece.
- Regent took a three point lead, 12-9, before the teams once again traded blows to 13-13. EMU held a slim one-point lead after a Turchetta kill and a Regent error, but Regent pushed into the lead with a 5-1 run, taking a 22-18 lead late.
- EMU would pick up a pair of points off two Regent errors, but RU finished out the set, and the match, with a kill and a service ace, to pick up the win.

What's Next
EMU will be off until next Friday, when they open ODAC play at home against Hollins University. First serve against the Green and Gold inside Yoder Arena, is set for 6:30 pm.
