HARRISONBURG, Va. - EMU Athletics held its annual Athletics Awards Ceremony on Monday, April 21, celebrating and recognizing the accomplishments of our student-athletes and teams during the 2024-25 academic year. Over the next few days, we are recapping each of the major award winners.
The President's Award is given annually to the senior male and female student-athlete who has most exemplified the values of the athletic department during their career through academic achievement, athletic contribution, faith commitment, leadership, campus involvement and service. Read on to learn more about this year's recipients:
Male President's Award: Jason Dwyer (Baseball)
Dwyer, a resident of Fairfax, Va., is a double major in political science and history, with minors in Pre-Law and Criminology, who has achieved a 3.94 GPA during his time at EMU. After graduation, he plans to attend graduate school at either George Washington University or George Mason University, and to enlist in the Virginia National Guard. He also plans to substitute teach during graduate school and coach in the area.
Dwyer was a four-year member of the baseball team. He was named a four-year "glue guy" and was part of the Baseball Leadership Council. In his time on the team, Dwyer played in 36 games with 22 starts. He had 19 hits and drove in 10 runs.
Dwyer was an EMU Honors Scholarship winner, a four-year member of the Dean's List and has been named to the All-ODAC Academic Team for the past three seasons. He was a DEI Grant Winner and Project Leader and, in the summer of 2024, had an Internship on Capitol Hill for a U.S. Senator through the Washington Community Scholars Center. On campus, Dwyer was a Community Advisor, the President of the EMU College Republicans Club, a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, a member of SGA, and a student representative for Re-Imagining EMU. He has also been a sociology re-entry simulation facilitator and a work study student for the fitness center and the history department.
"Relationships and perseverance define my EMU athletics experience," Dwyer said. "The relationships have been invaluable, but perseverance has been the greatest lesson. This experience has helped mold me, and I am forever grateful for what it has taught me and the people it has brought into my life."
Female President's Award: Jenna Weaver (Women's Cross Country, Track & Field, and Triathlon)
Weaver is a Nursing major with a minor in sociology from Harrisonburg, Va. She has achieved a 3.99 GPA while at EMU. After graduation, Weaver plans to take her nursing boards, move to Alaska with her fiancé, and she hopes to work as a nurse on an intermediate care unit.
Weaver was a four-year member of the women's cross country, triathlon and track & field teams. In triathlon, she was a two-time runner-up and a third place finisher at the NCAA East Region National Qualifier. In 2022, she was named Second-Team All-American at the NCAA Triathlon National Championship and in 2023, she was named First-Team All-American. During her four years for EMU Track & Field, she etched her name in the record books in the 1500 meters, the mile, the 3k, the 5k, and the 10k. She is also the EMU record holder in the Triathlon.
Weaver has been named to the Dean's List all four years, was named to the ODAC All-Academic Team for Cross Country and Track & Field all four years at EMU, was named to the NCAA All-Region Academic Team, and is a three-time NCAA Triathlon Academic All-American.
On campus, Weaver was a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, was a member of the Peace Fellowship Club, and was a member of the Nursing Student Association.
"EMU Athletics has been one of the most positive experiences of my college career, and for it I am extremely grateful," Weaver said. "The last 4 years have helped me grow to believe in myself, be confident in my abilities, how to encourage and lead teammates, and how to strive together."
