HARRISONBURG, Va. – The EMU Baseball team continued their busy final week of the regular season on Thursday, hosting Mary Baldwin for their final home game of the 2025 campaign. The Royals won the first meeting of the season with the Fighting Squirrels in February, and they repeated the feat with a 13-3 win in eight innings to complete the season sweep of the series.
Â
In particular,
Trevor Gjormand and
Hunter Sturgeon enjoyed career days at the ballpark. Gjormand, a sophomore second baseman from Herndon, went a perfect 3-for-3 at the dish while driving in four RBIs. Sturgeon, a senior from Gloucester, went 2-for-3 with a double, his first career multi-hit game in his final game at Royals Field.
Â
On the mound,
Ryan Gimbel and
Colby Eidson collaborated to hold the Fighting Squirrels to just three runs and five hits. Gimbel set a career-high in innings pitched (5.2) and strikeouts (3).
Â
The Diamond Royals finished the season with nine home wins, the most victories at Royals Field in a single season since 2019.

Highlights
- The game initially played out as a pitcher's duel as Gimbel and Mary Baldwin's pitching staff kept the teams off of the scoreboard through the first three innings.
- It was EMU that got the scoring started with three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Josh Gjormand got the ball rolling with a sac fly to right center as Dalton Rocke tagged up from third to score. Then, Trevor Gjormand knocked a two-RBI double to left center field, bringing in Sturgeon and Jason Dwyer. That made the score EMU 3, Mary Baldwin 0 after four innings.
- The Royals tacked on two more runs in the fifth. EMU utilized the sac fly once again, this time off of the bat of Chris Polymeropoulos to bringing Aidan Miller. Josh Gjormand followed up with an RBI single to right field, allowing Rocke to touch home again to make it a 5-0 ball game.
- Mary Baldwin countered with three runs in the sixth inning to close the gap to two runs at 5-3.
- EMU used a combination of good plate discipline and mistakes from Mary Baldwin to score four runs on four consecutive bases-loaded walke to go up 9-3.
- The Royals finished the job with four additional runs in the eighth. Trevor Gjormand slapped a base hit to right center field to send both Hady Bruno and Dwyer home and continue his stellar showing. He then reached home himself thanks to an Arnold base hit up the middle. Dylan Hall then hit the Royals' third sac fly of the game to bring in Alec Riles. That gave the Royals a 10-run lead after seven innings, ending the game via run rule. Â
