Royals Ground Falcons in Sunday Showdown

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Royals had one more day to enjoy spring break before hitting the books on Monday…and enjoy it they did.

They headed to PA for a showdown with Cedar Crest. EMU dominated in all phases of the game, holding the Falcons to just two goals, while Bailey Freeman (4) and Alex Palizzi (3) each scored a hat trick, en route to a 15-2 win.

Highlights

First Quarter
  • The Royals got on the board early, using a free position goal at the 13:54 mark from Palizzi, to get on the board with a 1-0 lead. Less than 20 seconds later, Freeman scored her first goal of the game, pushing EMU's lead to two.
  • Ava Walker added her team-leading 17th goal on another free position shot, this time with just over 11 and a half minutes left in the quarter. Shayleigh Sims got in on the goal scoring fun in the ninth minute as she took a pass from Courtney Crawford and put her shot past the Falcons keeper for a 4-0 lead.
  • Crawford put a one in the G column of the stats as she added a free position goal, before chipping in with another assist, this time to Ainsley Clark, to help give the Royals a 6-0 lead after one, with six different goal scorers. Royals goalkeeper Cristal Narciso did her part in the first, coming up with four saves to keep Cedar Crest off the board.
Second Quarter
  • Freeman added her second goal of the day in the 12th minute of the second quarter, before Walker and Palizzi each added another goal, giving the Royals a 9-0 lead heading into the break.
  • The Royals defense was lockdown, holding CCC to just three shots on goal, all of which were saved by Narciso, giving her seven saves at the half.
Third Quarter
  • Just 15 seconds into the third quarter, after winning the draw control, Amber Bonds took the ball into the Falcons defensive zone and fired a shot that beat the Cedar Crest keeper, to give EMU a double-digit lead.
  • Sims added her second goal of the day, with an assist from Walker, for an 11-0 advantage.
  • After a green card on EMU gave CCC a man-up, they took advantage and added their first goal of the day. But EMU struck back with three more goals in the final 7:35 of the quarter, with Crawford scoring one and Freeman adding two more for a hat trick.
Fourth Quarter
  • Freeman continued her career day, adding her fourth goal at 11:43 of the fourth quarter, for a 15-1 EMU lead. The EMU defense conceded just their second goal of the day, and it would turn out to be Cedar Crest's final score, with just 3:16 left in the game. EMU's defense would hold the Falcons without a shot in the game's final three minutes to secure the win.

What's Next
EMU will be back in action next Saturday, when they open up ODAC play with a home game against Randolph Macon. First Draw against the Yellow Jackets is set for 1 pm.
