Royals Get Stung by Shenandoah in Midweek ODAC Road Game

WINCHESTER, Va. – Following a Saturday doubleheader versus Lynchburg, EMU Baseball continued the Hornets portion of their schedule with a bus ride north to take on Shenandoah. The two teams went back-and-forth early, but in the end, it was the host Hornets who handed the Royals a 16-5 defeat.

Records: EMU 6-9, 1-4 ODAC | RV Shenandoah 13-6, 5-1 ODAC

WP: Anthony Arrichiello (2-0)
LP:  Brayden Pendleton (1-1)

Highlights
  • After a scoreless opening inning, the Royals got the scoring started in the top of the second inning. Jett Cabanban continued his recent strong form at the dish with an RBI double, bringing in Dalton Rocke. Noah Sanderson also scored on the play off of fielding error by Shenandoah's centerfielder, giving the Royals a 2-0 lead. However, the cushion was short-lived as the Hornets plated three runs to take a 3-2 lead through two innings.
  • EMU quickly tied things up as Aidan Miller advanced on a Daniel McGinnis ground out to tie the game at 3-3. But the Hornets had an answer again, putting three runs on the board in the bottom half to go up 6-3 on the Royals through three innings.
  • The Hornets took control of the game from there, piling on five runs in the fourth inning, three more runs in the fifth, and two more runs in the sixth.
  • The Royals staged a mini-rally with two runs in the top of the seventh. Drew Petitt reached home when Hady Bruno drew a bases-loaded walk, and then Garrett Nyce touched home plate thanks to a sac fly by Trevor Gjormand. However, it was not enough as the ODAC's 10-run rule took effect to end the game.

What's Next
