HARRISONBURG, Va. - After playing them just 23 days ago, EMU welcomed in Averett to Yoder Arena for a Friday night ODAC matchup with the Cougars. 

And just like the first match, it was deja vu all over again as EMU swept Averett, 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-22).

Highlights

Set One - EMU 25, Averett 15

• EMU jumped out to an 8-2 lead, with a kill from Andre Mills, two James Powell aces and block from Derek Diaz and Daeman Odom. Averett would get some offense going, and cut EMU's lead to 13-10. 
• After AU pulled within three, the Royals went on an 8-1 run, with three more kills from Mills, an Ezekiel Awkward ace and blocks from Powell, Mills and Odom, for a 21-11 lead. After a Cougar kill, EMU would reel off three straight with an Odom kill and back-to-back Mills aces. Averett would score the next three points to cut their deficit to nine, but a service error put the Royals ahead 1-0. 

Set Two - EMU 25, Averett 17

• This time it was Averett starting out on top, takinga  5-2 lead early on. EMU answered with a 7-1 tilt, using three kills from Mills, along with an ace, as well as a kill from Odom and Derek Diaz, to take a 9-6 lead. 
• Averett cut EMU's lead to one, trailing just 10-9, before EMU went on an 8-3 advantage, pulling ahead 18-12. The teams traded points to 19-14, and then EMU extended its lead to 22-14 with an error and two kills from Odom. 
• Once again, the teams swapped points, which worked out for EMU as they were able to wrap up the set with a kill from Awkward, for a 2-0 lead. 

Set Three - EMU 25, Averett 22

• Awkward set the tone in set three, picking up kill right away. Averett then took a 5-4 lead, until the Royals reeled off three straight to take the lead. 
• With the set tied at eight, EMU went was able to take a comfortable lead with an 8-2 run, to pull ahead 16-10. Later in the set, EMU was leading 20-13, before Averett went on a run of their own, 5-0, to cut EMU's lead to two. The Royals scored four of the next five points, taking advantage of three errors and a Delan Wright kill, to move to match point. Averett cut EMU's lead to two, but Powell made sure the fans were sent home happy, using a kill to put the finishing touches on the sweep.

What's Next
EMU will be back on the court on Saturday, when they welcome in Drew University and #9 Messiah University, for a tri-match. First serve against Drew is set for 1 pm.
