HARRISONBURG, Va.- For one last time in the 2024-25 season, the EMU Women's Basketball team played in front of the Rowdy Royals in Yoder Arena, facing off with nationally-ranked Washington & Lee. The Royals showed some fight, getting as close as seven in the third quarter, but the Generals wound up handing EMU a 79-56 defeat.
Laila Glymph and
Lauren Townsend co-led the Royals with 11 points each. All 14 active players saw action for the Royals on the evening.
For the Generals, Mary Schleusner showed why she is the two-time reigning ODAC Player of the Year, scoring 22 points and grabbing 20 rebounds. Quinn McGuinness chipped in 15 points for W&L.

Highlights
First Quarter
The visiting Generals set the tone with the first six points of the game. Glymph stopped the early W&L run with a two-point jumper at the 7:28 mark. However, the Generals then marched their way to 12-1 run over a nearly four-minute span, opening up an 18-3 lead. EMU did eat into the deficit with seven unanswered points, with two free throws each from
Jeriyah Osborne and
Jazmyn Taylor and a three-pointer from Townsend. That got the Royals within eight at 18-10, but the Generals outscored the Royals 9-2 for the rest of the quarter, making the score 27-12 W&L after the first quarter of action.
Second Quarter
The second quarter was a little more even, with
Jayda Jones opening the quarter's scoring with a floater at the 9:19 mark. The Royals got as close as 12 in the quarter thanks to a
Grace Burke three-pointer, but it was W&L that took a 43-24 cushion into halftime.
Third Quarter
The Royals came out of the locker room strong to make a game of it in the third quarter. EMU opened up the second half with a 12-2 run over the opening 3:42 of the quarter. Townsend got things started with a pull-up jumper 17 seconds into the second half, followed closely by an Osborne floater. After W&L got two points back, the Royals answered with a Townsend jumper, a
Lexie Dingus layup, and a Jones three-pointer, bringing EMU within nine at 45-36. The Royals got as close as seven when a Glymph three-ball at the 3:07 mark made it W&L 50, EMU 43. The Generals did open up the gap a bit before the end of the quarter, entering the fourth with a 12-point lead, 60-48.
Fourth Quarter
The Royals continued to battle in the fourth, but W&L made the plays down the stretch and pulled away for the victory.
