Highlights
First Quarter
After a Giannopoulou layup to open the scoring for Guilford, EMU rattled off the next six points unanswered on a jumper from Osborne, a layup by
Jazmyn Taylor, and another layup from
Lexie Dingus to go up 6-2 at the 7:51 mark. After a 5-0 run by the Quakers to go back up one,
Lauren Townsend drilled a three-pointer to push the Royals back out front, 9-7. The back-and-forth continued through the rest of the period. In the final minute, Osborne and
Kaylene Todd got a layup each to give the Royals a 21-18 edge at the end of the first.
Second Quarter
The second quarter proved to be the decisive one in the game. After four points from Guilford to go up one, Jones put home a layup to give the Royals the lead back at 23-22. The Quakers sank a jumper to go back up one, but Jones countered with one of her own to make it 25-24 in favor of EMU. But then Giannopoulou sank a three-pointer to put Guilford up 27-25 at the 4:35 mark. That basket back an 11-0 run by Guilford to close out the half to put them up 35-25 at halftime.
Third Quarter
EMU got the first basket of the second half on a Jones layup fourteen seconds into the third quarter. However, the Quakers again had an answer, going on a 6-0 run to go up 41-27 at the 7:59 mark. Osborne sank a three-pointer to stop the run, but the Royals got no closer for the rest of the third quarter, heading to the fourth trailing by 13, 55-42.
Fourth Quarter
Jones made a layup with 8:26 remaining to draw EMU within 15 at 60-45. However, the Quakers went on their second 11-0 scoring run of the game to effectively end any EMU comeback hopes. The Royals scored the final 15 points of the game, but it was too little and too late.
