Royals Second Half Rally Falls Just Short in Loss to Hornets

HARRISONBURG, Va. - Four days after losing on a buzzer beater to Shenandoah, EMU had a chance to do the same thing to the University of Lynchburg.

The teams would swap the lead to 20-20 with 11:29 left in the frame. Over the next eight and a half minutes, Lynchburg shot 8-14 from the field, en route to a 19-7 run, as the Hornets took a 39-27 lead into the locker room.

Second Half
UL would continue to hold a double digit lead to start the second half, with a dunk from Jalen Jones cutting the Royals deficit to 10. Later in the half, after a Torrence layup pulled EMU within 11, Lynchburg went on a 13-3 run to extend their lead to 21, 61-40, their largest of the game. But EMU would not be deterred, as they spent the next nine minutes chipping away at the Hornets lead, pulling within 10, thanks to 11 points from both Torrence and Aviwe Mahlong. Down 10, EMU 10 of the next 11 points, using five points from Zach Bailey, along with a multiple defensive stops, to pull within one. After a Lynchburg miss, Bailey grabbed the rebound, setting up the Royals for a final shot. But unfortunately, it wasn't in the cards as Lynchburg picked up the win.
