ROANOKE, Va.- The EMU Women's Basketball team made their way south down I-81 for a midweek ODAC matchup at Hollins on Wednesday. Unfortunately for the Royals, their ODAC skid continued with a 61-54 defeat against the Green and Gold.
EMU had a balanced offensive attack, with eight different Royals scoring at least three points.
Jeriyah Osborne was the lone EMU player in double figures with 10 points, while
Laila Glymph grabbed 12 rebounds and pitched in eight points, just two shy of a double-double.
For Hollins, Sarah Morales led all scorers with 22 points while Cabria Mutz posted a double-double with 10 points and 15 rebounds.
Records:Â EMU 8-7, 0-6 ODAC | Hollins 9-5, 3-4 ODAC
Highlights
First Quarter
Hollins opened the scoring with a Morales three-pointer, followed closely by EMU's first two points on a
Jayla Gray layup. The two teams continued back-and-forth throughout the opening quarter, with neither side building a lead bigger than six.
Jazmyn Taylor capped the first half scoring with a  driving layup, but it was Hollins that led 15-12 after 10 minutes of play.
Second Quarter
Hollins opened up a 21-14 lead early in the period, but the Royals fought back with a 12-0 scoring run over nearly four minutes of game action to take a 26-21 lead.
Grace Burke contributed six of the 12 points in that rally, along with three each from Osborne and Grace Townsend. However, Hollins closed the half on a 10-4 run of their own to hold a narrow 31-30 lead at the break.

Third Quarter
Hollins picked up where they left off to start the second half, going on an 8-0 run over the first 2:34 of the third period. Glymph got EMU's first second half basket with a driving layup at the 6:59 mark. Down 10 at 42-32, EMU closed back to within four thanks to an 8-2 rally, capped by a layup from Glymph with 55 ticks left on the third quarter clock. An Erin Allen layup plus a three-point play from Morales allowed Hollins to open their lead back up to nine at 49-40 through three quarters.
Â
Fourth Quarter
Following a Gray jump shot for the Royals, Hollins hit four straight free throws to grow their lead to 11. The Royals countered with back-to-back three-pointers, one each for Osborne and
Meredith Atkinson to draw within five at 53-48. Sadly, the Royals got no closer than that in the closing minutes of the contest. Â
