Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The EMU Women's Soccer team wrapped up their weekend on Sunday, with a trip to Charlotte to take on Johnson & Wales.

Esme Cardoso-Rodriguez scored her first collegiate goal in the 36th minute, and the Royals defense pitched a shutout, en route to a 1-0 win over the Wildcats.

Highlights

• Both teams came out slugging on defense, shutting the other down and keeping the shots down to zero. But in the 36th minute, after a corner kick from Izzy Fraher, a loose ball came out to Cardoso-Rodriguez, who buried it in the back of the net for her first goal, and a 1-0 Royals lead. 
• The EMU defense held the Wildcats to just one shot in the first 45 minutes, which Aja Laun saved, to send EMU to the locker room with a 1-0 halftime lead. 
• In the second half, the Wildcats came out more aggressive on the offensive end, as they peppered Laun with four more shots. But the senior captain stopped them all, to preserve the shutout and help the Royals pick up their first win of the season.

What's Next
The Royals are back at home on Wednesday, when they welcome in NC Wesleyan to the Turf Field. Kickoff against the Battling Bishops is set for 7 pm.
