Box Score 2 CHESTERTOWN, MD. – The Royals Women's Volleyball team make the trip north to Maryland on Saturday, taking on a pair of non-conference opponents in a tri-match.
In the opener, EMU took down Rutgers-Camden 3-1 (25-17, 22-25, 25-22, 25-13) before they dropped the finale to Washington College, 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-19)

Set One – EMU 25, RC 18
- EMU jumped out to a big lead to start the match, leading 13-4 from kills by Laney Cline, Kassidy Meadows, Sophia Denby and Kenley Smith, along with an ace from Hannah Quero and two aces from Claire Reichenbach.
- Later in the set, a 9-2 run put EMU ahead handily, 22-8.
- RC tried to claw back in, using a 9-2 run of their own, only allowing a Meadows kill and a block from Smith and Kaitlyn Custis, to cut EMU's lead to 24-17, but a kill from Denby, her fifth of the set, gave EMU a 1-0 lead.
Set Two – RC 25, EMU 22
- Three kills from Cline and aces from Meadows and Madison Stockner, gave EMU a 7-1 run to start the second set. EMU continued to hold a small lead, and used a 3-0 lead off kills from Stockner and Cline, along with a Meadows/Smith blocks to take a 16-11 lead.
- The Scarlet Raptors answered with a 9-1 run of their own, pulling ahead 20-17 before EMU scored two straight from an error and a Cline kill.
- Rutgers-Camden finished out the set and tied things at one apiece, as EMU was only able to score three more points, kills from Smith and Denby.
Set Three – EMU 25, RC 22
- Three Royals aces started the fourth set, giving EMU a 5-1 lead. RC tied things at five, but EMU retook the lead off blocks from Meadows, Smith and Cline, and a Meadows ace.
- The two teams traded points and Rutgers-Camden eventually pulled ahead 18-13 and even had a 22-20 lead late in the set, but the Royals rallied, reeling off five straight points, highlighted by kills from Stockner and Smith, two Stockner aces and a big Stockner block to end the set.
Set Four – EMU 25, RC 13
- The Royals came out firing in the fourth, taking a commanding 7-1 lead off the hands of Stockner (ace), Cline (kill) and Meadows (kill). RC was able to cut the lead to five, 9-4, but EMU answered with another run, this time 6-0, to pull ahead 15-4.
- The teams traded points to EMU leading 18-7, until EMU pushed their lead to 15 behind kills from Cline and a block from Smith.
- The Scarlet Raptors picked up five straight, attempting to make the set close, but EMU finished things up, winning three of the final four points, with a Smith kill putting the exclamation point on the set.

Highlights
Set One – Washington College 25, EMU 20
- A Stockner kill and ace, along with a WC error, gave the Royals a 3-2 lead to start the match. The teams went back-and-forth until Washington went on a 6-2 run to take a 12-10 lead.
- EMU continued to keep the Shorewomen in their sights, cutting their lead to one, 15-14. WC was able to pull ahead by two, 16-14, 18-16, 19-17 and 20-18.
- Washington went on a 4-1 run to take a 24-19 lead, and, after a service error, took the set win with a kill, for a 1-0 lead.
Set Two – Washington College 25, EMU 18
- Kills from Smith and two Woolford aces gave EMU a 6-2 lead to start set two. Washington College fought back and took a 10-8 lead.
- EMU used a 4-0 lead, highlighted by kills from Stockner and Cline, along with a Quero ace and a block from Stockner and Meadows, to take a 12-10 advantage. EMU held a slim lead, 14-13, before WC reeled off six straight to take a 19-14 lead. Back-to-back errors pulled EMU within three, but the Shorewomen scored three straight to push their lead back to six.
- Cline and Denby picked up kills to pull the Royals to within four, 22-18, but Washington scored the final three points to take a 2-0 lead.
Set Three - Washington College 25, EMU 19
- Washington College jumped out to a 7-2 lead and lead 13-6 early. EMU then went on a 4-1 run, picking up kills from Stockner and aces from Quero and Stocker, to pull within four, 14-10.
- Kills from Smith and Cline, and a Meadows ace, pulled EMU back within four, 17-14. Later in the set, EMU went on another run, this time 4-0, to cut the Shorewomen's lead to one and force a timeout.
- Out of the break, Washington College went on a 5-0 run to get to match point. EMU staved off match point with an error, but WC finished things off with a kill for the win.

EMU will be back at home, and return to ODAC play, on Wednesday when they welcome in Bridgewater College to Yoder Arena on Wednesday First serve against the Eagles is set for 6:30 pm.
