Royals Hang On For Big Apple Triumph Over Yeshiva

NEW YORK, N.Y.- The EMU Women's Basketball team completed their pre-winter break trip on Sunday, stopping by the bright lights and tall skyscrapers of New York City for a Sunday matinee against Yeshiva College. The Maccabees gave EMU a tough time, but in the end, the Royals emerged victorious by the final score of 70-63.

With the win, EMU went 8-1 in their non-conference games this season, the team's best mark outside of ODAC play since the 2003-04 team also went 8-1 against non-conference competition.

Jayla Gray posted her third consecutive double-double in the triumph, scoring 12 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Grace Burke led all Royals with 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field. Jazmyn Taylor put up double figures for the first time in her collegiate career, tallying 10 points and shooting 5-of-7 from the floor.

Yeshiva was led by the duo of Shai Rahamim and Daniella Bessler, who scored 22 and 20 points respectively to guide the Maccabees.

EMU led Yeshiva 20-7 after the opening period.

Second Quarter

Third Quarter
Gray got the opening bucket of the second half on a layup, but the Maccabees countered with a 9-0 run to take their first lead of the afternoon at 37-36. Burke knotted things up at 37 on a free throw, but Yeshiva then scored eight unanswered points to obtain their biggest lead of the game. However, the Royals dug deep to outscore the Maccabees 14-1 over the final 4:22 of the frame. Burke, Lauren Townsend, and Laila Glymph contributed four points each to the rally.
