Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Royals Cruise Past Central Penn for Fourth Straight Win

HARRISONBURG, Va.- Following a productive weekend in Baltimore, the EMU Women's Basketball Team began a five-game homestead on Tuesday, welcoming Central Penn College to Yoder Arena. It was indeed a happy homecoming for the Royals as they led for all but 4:11 of the game to defeat the Knights 77-52.

Jeriyah Osborne and Grace Burke guided the Royals by scoring 17 and 16 points, respectively. Osborne and Burke have each scored in double figures in all but one game this season. Laila Glymph had a strong night on the glass, collecting 11 rebounds. In total, 12 different players scored at least two points for the Royals.

Allison Yoder led Central Penn with a double-double, scoring 17 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.

This the Royals' fourth consecutive victory, their longest win streak since they won five in a row during the 2018-19 season. Furthermore, this the women's basketball team's best start through five games since the 2014-15 squad began the season 4-1.

Records: EMU 4-1 | Central Penn 2-3

Highlights
First Quarter
Both teams had a sluggist start to the contest, going the first 5:14 without a field goal until Laila Glymph put home a driving layup. After the Knights took a brief 4-3 lead on a Yoder layup, Burke countered with a layup of her own at the 3:27 mark to put EMU out front 5-4. The Royals never trailed again.

Second Quarter
The Royals began the second period on a 9-0 scoring run spanning the opening three minutes of the frame. Kaylene Todd tallied the first four points of the run with two free throws and a layup, followed by a Burke three-pointer and a Jayla Gray layup to grow EMU's lead to 13 at 21-8. After early foul trouble, Osborne came back in the game to score five points in the second quarter on a driving layup and a three-pointer. EMU entered the locker room enjoying a 32-19 lead.

Third Quarter
Townsend scored EMU's first four points of the second half with two layups in the first 1:07 of the third period. In the middle of the period, the Royals stretched their lead to 18 at 49-31 courtesy of a 10-4 scoring run that included five points from Osborne. Central Penn ended the quarter on a mini-run of 6-2 to make it a 51-37 contest with 10 minutes left.

Fourth Quarter
After a Jayla Pearson layup drew the Knights within 12, the Royals erased any doubt in the outcome with a 19-5 scoring run that spanned nearly six minutes of game action. The rally included four EMU three-pointers, three by Burke and another by Brooke Morris.
