Royals Take Down Greensboro for Second Win

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Royals wrapped up their weekend at the Carlyle Whitelow Invitational on Saturday, taking on a familiar foe.

After taking down Greensboro last Sunday, EMU did it once again, outscoring the Pride 26-16 in the second half, en route to a 59-51 win.

Highlights

First Half

Greensboro jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead to start the game, before Payton Lewis' three got EMU on the board. GC was able to extend their lead to 10, 16-6, but back-to-back threes from Aviwe Mahlong and Isaiah Carr pulled the Royals within four. Later in the half, after Greensboro went ahead 21-12, the Royals scored six straight points from Teko Bostick Jr., Gabriel Campbell and Mahlong. The Pride continued to lead, pushing it out to as many as eight with a 7-0 run. The Royals, however, ended the half on a 10-6 run, using a pair of Mahlong free throws to cut the Greensboro lead to two, 35-33, at the half.

Second Half
Carr tied things at 35 to start the second half, but GC answered with a three to pull back in front. Carr then added four straight, with a Gabriel Campbell bucket, to take their first lead of the game, 41-38, before GC hit another three to tie things at 41. The teams swapped the lead until, with Greensboro leading by one, EMU went on a 5-0 run with a layup from Kai Johnson and a three from Lewis. But once again, Greensboro would claw back in, and take a two-point lead with just over six minutes to play. But a layup from Carr to tie things, followed by a tip-in from Brooks, would give EMU a lead they wouldn't relinquish again. Another tip-in and two free throws from Brooks, and a pair of free throws from Lewis, sealed the win for EMU, their second consecutive weekend win over Greensboro.
