Frenzied Finish Results in a 2-2 Draw for Royals at Averett

DANVILLE, Va.  –  The EMU Men's Soccer Royals woke up early for a morning kick-off on the road at Averett University on Saturday.
 
After a back-and-forth match that featured three goals in the final 15 minutes of action, the Royals and the Cougars settled on a 2-2 tie on Averett's Homecoming weekend. For the Royals, it is their seventh draw of the 2024 campaign, setting an EMU single-season school record for ties.

Highlights
  • 67' | After a scoreless opening half, Averett's Daniel Starr took a long pass, attacking from the right side and scoring with his left foot to give Averett the 1-0 lead. That was the first goal that EMU allowed in 257:08 of game action.
  • 76' | The resilient Royals found an answer. Cole Jordan stole the ball from an Averett defender and found senior Kaden Schrock with a perfectly-placed cross, which Schrock booted home to even the match at 1-1. The goal is Schrock's fourth of the season, good for second on the team.
  • 86' | EMU continued to press the issue offensively after their first goal, and they were rewarded for it. A Royals shot went off of the post, but the ball then deflected off Schrock and back in the net for a goal and a 2-1 EMU lead.
  • 88' | The Royals hoped to hold on for the win in the closing minutes, but it was not to be Oliver Kousholt rallied to a loose ball left of the box and kicked it in to bring the match to its 2-2 final score.
  • Andrew Arledge continued his excellent play in net with 10 saves, including an amazing stop on an Averett penalty kick in the 13th minute of action.

What's Next
The EMU Men's Soccer team returns to the friendly confines of the EMU Turf Field on Wednesday, Oct. 23 for a grudge match with Shenandoah. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
