HARRISONBURG, Va.- The EMU Women's Basketball team ushered in the spring semester with their annual Rowdy Royals home game against the Lynchburg Hornets. Unfortunately, it was not a happy homecoming for EMU as they fell to the Hornets by a final score of 79-49.
Mya Hamlet and
Brii Redfearn both scored in double figures for the Royals, tallying 14 and 12 points, respectively. Hamlet continued her recent upward trajectory by filling up the stat sheet to the tune of five steals, four rebounds, two assists, and a block.
For Lynchburg, four players ended the night in double figures, led by Sammi Sever with 17 points. The Hornets were on fire all evening, shooting 52.5 percent from the field.

Highlights
First Quarter
Lynchburg got off to a 9-4 start, but then the Royals countered with a 6-0 run that included a three-pointer from
Jeriyah Osborne to take a 10-9 lead. However, the Hornets rattled off three straight three pointers and took a 19-13 advantage to the second quarter.
Second Quarter
The Royals cut the deficit to five on a Redfearn three pointer, part of a 6-2 scoring run in which Redfearn scored all six points. But Lynchburg answered with a 7-2 rally over the final 2:44 of the half to go to the locker room up 38-28.
Third Quarter
Lynchburg further separated themselves from EMU in the third quarter, outscoring the Royals 27-9 in the frame.
Kayla Surles notched her first points of the game on a three-pointer with 5:43 left in the period, but the Hornets scored 16 unanswered points over the final 5:26 to go out front 65-37 and put the game out of reach.
Fourth Quarter
EMU put up a fight with a 7-0 run over a 49-second span, but it was too little too late as Lynchburg made plays down the stretch to seal their victory.
